Position description
In conjunction with the Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Head Coach sets the overall vision of the swimming program, including setting program goals and objectives, and is responsible for the overall management of the program, which includes recruiting, developing and guiding student-athletes in accordance with MtA values.
Responsibilities
MOUNTIES VARSITY SWIM PROGRAM
- Define concrete action plans toward the realization of the vision, goals and objectives for the swim program and ensure their implementation, in synergy with those of the Athletics Department
- Develop and implement an effective recruitment program to attract outstanding student athletes to ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ Allison University
- Provide guidance and support to student-athletes towards achieving their greatest potential both academically and athletically, which includes helping design and/or monitoring team members’ personal development programs and progress with respect to their academic, athletic, and community citizenship
- Act as a role model and ensure adherence to procedures and policies of the Athletics Department and ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ Allison University to ensure the optimal realization of team goals and objectives
- Monitor the student-athletes to ensure their compliance with all team, departmental, university, and AUS/U SPORTS policies, rules and regulations
- Build and manage a coaching staff that optimizes our opportunity for success
- Become an expert in all pertinent AUS/ U SPORTS regulations
- Establish positive relationships with department staff, other university departments and faculties, and other groups such as high schools, communities, boosters, alumni and media
- Understand the critical role the head coach plays in the engagement of alumni for the support of our program, and contribute to the fundraising activities of the Program, which includes developing alumni relationships and alumni engagement with the program
- Perform other administrative duties as required
POOL OPERATIONS
- Oversee the creation, communication and management of the ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ Allison pool schedule, including record keeping of pool use
- Handle all interactions with user groups, including assisting with the completion of user group contracts
- Liaise with Facilities Management to ensure proper management and maintenance of pool and pool equipment, including for documentation of regular water quality and pool systems checks
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications/skills
- Minimum of 7 years’ coaching experience
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field (e.g. Kinesiology, Recreation or Sports Administration)
- Familiarity with Hytek and Swim Canada registration process will be considered an asset
- Coaching experience as a head coach will be considered an asset
- Coaching experience with swimmers aged 18+ and at the U SPORTS level will be considered an asset
- Being a member of the Canadian Swim Coaches Association (CSCTA) will be considered an asset
- Technical knowledge and ability (NCCP certification preferred)
- Willingness to complete Certified Pool Operator Course
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, organizational and motivational skills
- Ability to maintain clear vulnerable sector check over time
