To better manage parking on campus, ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ Allison will implement paid parking starting January 2026.
Why we’re making this change
This change aims to encourage students, faculty, and staff to walk, bike, or carpool, reducing single-occupancy vehicles and the University’s overall carbon footprint.
Revenue from paid parking will be used to maintain and improve parking facilities, allowing other resources to remain fully dedicated to supporting our educational mission.
Cost of parking permits
The cost of parking permits will be available in August 2025. We encourage you to review the timeline below and the FAQ.
A variety of parking permit options will be available to fit your specific needs, whether you’re looking for monthly or annual options, or need a flexible pay-per-use choice.
If you have further questions, please contact parking@mta.ca.
Parking permits
The cost of parking permits will be available Aug. 2025.
The cost of an annual daytime parking permit, expected to be the most popular pass, will be set at an affordable rate, averaging about less than $1 per day for those who park regularly on campus.
Vehicles will be registered by license plate number through ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ Allison’s single-sign-on parking webpage using your MtA email address. This means you will not need to display a physical parking pass or decal, but you will need to register your vehicle’s license plate online.

FAQ
Why are we making this change?
This change aims to encourage students, faculty, and staff to walk, bike, or carpool, reducing single-occupancy vehicles and the University’s overall carbon footprint.
Revenue from paid parking will be used to maintain and improve parking facilities, allowing other resources to remain fully dedicated to supporting our educational mission.
How will paid parking impact the availability of parking spaces on campus?
Paid parking is intended to encourage alternative transportation options like walking, biking, or carpooling. As a result, while demand for parking may continue to grow due to an increasing number of commuters, the paid system will help manage demand by promoting carpooling and alternative transportation to campus.
Will the parking system be enforced 24/7, including weekends?
Yes, parking will be enforced 24/7, including weekends, to ensure that parking spaces are always available for those with valid permits or payments.
This helps maintain an organized parking system and ensures spaces are used properly at all times. Information on parking enforcement and violations will be shared closer to the launch date, in December 2025 in the new Parking Policy.
How will I be able to purchase a parking permit?
Students, faculty, and staff can purchase parking permits online through ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ Allison's single sign-on parking webpage, using your MtA email address.
If you'd prefer to pay with cash, debit, or credit, you can register your vehicle or buy a parking permit at the Security kiosk located in the Wallace McCain Student Centre.
Can I get a refund on my parking pass if I don't use it?
Parking passes are non-refundable. Please choose the parking pass that best suits your needs. If you are uncertain about requiring a full-year pass (such as a daytime parking pass), we recommend purchasing a pass for one term instead of committing to the full year. This allows flexibility in case your parking needs change.
Will there be separate designated lots for students, faculty, and staff?
All parking lots are available for students, faculty, and staff on a first-come, first-served basis. There are designated lots for overnight parking.
More details will be available in the new Parking Policy in Fall 2025.
Can faculty and staff use payroll deduction to pay for parking passes?
Payroll deduction is not available to purchase a parking permit.
We are providing advance notice to help the University community and wider community plan for purchasing a parking permit in 2026. Multiple payment options, including cash, credit, and debit, will be available starting in Fall 2025.
Can the cost of a parking pass be added to my tuition?
The cost of a parking pass cannot be added to your tuition.
Parking fees are managed separately from tuition and must be paid through the Security office or the online portal. We will be offering various payment methods to make the process convenient, including cash, credit, debit, or online payment.
If I buy a parking permit, will I be guaranteed a parking space?
Purchasing a parking permit does not guarantee a parking space. Parking operates on a first-come, first-served basis.
While we strive to provide sufficient parking for all permit holders, availability may vary during peak times. We recommend arriving early, especially during high-demand periods (9 a.m.–1 p.m.), to increase the likelihood of finding a spot.
Will the University sell more parking permits than there are parking spots?
As is done at other Universities, more parking permits than parking spots may be sold because a single spot is typically used by 3-4 cars in one day, so it’s common practice to sell more passes than there are physical parking spaces, as not all pass holders are on campus at the same time each day.
There will also be reserved parking permits that guarantee a spot on campus.
Will there be any free parking on campus?
There will be no free parking on campus. Beginning in January 2026, all parking on campus will be paid parking and will require a permit or an hourly parking pass.
I require accessible parking, where can I park?
If you require accessible parking, a parking permit will still be required. Additionally, if you have a valid accessible parking permit issued by the province, you can park in any of the designated accessible parking spaces available across campus upon coordination with the People and Culture department.
Will Tantramar community members and other visitors be able to purchase a permit?
Yes, Sackville/Tantramar community members and other campus visitors will be able to purchase parking permits. These will be available online through the same website used by faculty and staff.
More information will be shared once registration details are finalized.
